“There is absolutely no legal reason for the UK to withdraw from Euratom. Despite being strongly advised not to by industry stakeholders, the government invoked both Article 106a – establishing Euratom – and Article 50 at the same time unnecessarily.
The decision was made on purely political grounds. Theresa May has made it very clear that she wants to be free from the clutches of the EU institutions and specifically the European Court of Justice, and this offers her a way out – at the potential expense of the UK’s nuclear industry.
