Between 26 February and 3 March, the “Beast from the East” brought the coldest winter period to the UK since 2010, according to a summary by Imperial College for Drax’s Energy Insights publication. There was no lack of power at that time, but the behaviour of interconnectors will add fuel to the arguments of those who believe that the UK has overestimated the contribution interconnectors make to security of supply – and that they are being over-rewarded as a consequence.
