Ofgem has told energy suppliers that it will “accept any request a supplier makes with regards to submitting a revised rollout plan” for smart meters – provided a new plan is submitted on 31 January 2019.
Consumers have to be offered a smart meter by the end of 2020 and suppliers have to take “all reasonable steps” to install them by that date. But in an open letter in May, the regulator warned suppliers that they must engage with the regulator now if they want an opportunity to replan their smart meter rollout.
