Utilities face a deadline of October to halt installation of early-version smart meters (so-called Smets 1 versions) and start mass rollout of a new, Smets 2 version. But testing of Smets 2 meters is not complete and New Power understands there have been high failure rates in “end-to-end” testing. The issue lies not with the meters themselves, but with the complex series of interactions as data is passed from meters to suppliers through the communications hub (the DCC).
