The CCUS Task Force argues that deploying carbon capture and storage at scale is important to cut costs. I could not agree more. But when it comes to moving down the cost curve, scale is about repetition, not sheer size. A single large project is simply a bigger burden – in financial, planning and technical terms – as our nuclear programme attests. But it’s not easy to build a series of small CCS units.
