SSEN has applied to Ofgem for spending approval to reduce the visual impact of historic transmission infrastructure in Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park. It will underground 12km of overhead line near the villages of Boat of Garten and Nethy Bridge, removing 46 transmission towers.

 

Intelligent Land, the company behind the Red John 450MW pumped storage hydro project at Loch Ness, has proposed two similar but larger schemes at Loch Tay (600MW) and Loch Awe (520MW) both also in the Scottish Highlands.
